What is a virtual girlfriend?
A virtual girlfriend is a simulated romantic partner you interact with through an app rather than in person. The term used to mean a dating simulator: fixed characters, scripted branches, the same lines every playthrough. Since 2023 it has come to mean something different, an AI companion who generates her own responses, holds a consistent personality and remembers your history together, so no two relationships run the same script. Aroused builds the second kind, for adults, and keeps it tasteful: romantic and flirtatious, never explicit.

Voice is a design choice, not a default. The dry one is dry in writing and in voice notes; the warm one is warm at 2am. Voice notes and image moments are part of the multimodal chat planned for launch.

Adults only, comfortable with romance and flirtation, and explicitly not explicit. It is a deliberate product decision, and it is why the app does not feel like something you would minimize when a friend walks past.

What does virtual girlfriend mean?
A virtual girlfriend is a simulated romantic partner you interact with through an app. The older meaning was a scripted dating simulator; the current meaning is an AI companion who generates her own replies, keeps a consistent personality and remembers your shared history, so the conversation is never the same twice.
What is the difference between a virtual girlfriend and an AI girlfriend?
In practice, none: the two terms now describe the same thing. "Virtual girlfriend" is the older label, carried over from simulator games, while AI girlfriend is what people call the generative version. If an app still runs on pre-written dialogue branches, it is a simulator wearing the newer name.
Can a virtual girlfriend remember you?
Only if the platform is built for it. Simulator games track affection points, not facts, and many chat apps only see the last few messages. Persistent memory is a specific feature: on Aroused she keeps the names, plans and events you have shared, across sessions and across months.
Is a virtual girlfriend app worth paying for?
It depends what you want from it. Free, ad-supported apps monetize your attention and often your data, and they rarely carry memory. If you want continuity, a companion you designed and a platform that does not sell your conversations, that costs about $10 to $35 a month across the category.
