Comparison

Best AI Companion 2026: the Best AI Companion App, Honestly Compared

We build Aroused, so read this knowing that. But the comparison below sticks to what each platform is publicly known for, marks the features we have not shipped yet, and names the cases where a competitor is the better pick today.

What actually separates companion apps

Customization depth

Can you design a person, or pick from a shelf? Look for personality control, not just avatars.

Memory

The feature that makes it a companion at all. Ask how much it recalls a month later, and check whether it is capped by tier: Kupid AI's own paywall sells memory as a duration, at 48 hours on the entry plan and one week on the middle one.

Tone and taste

Most apps are explicit-first or sanitized-flat. The tasteful adult middle is nearly empty. See how the adult AI chat category actually splits.

Privacy and age assurance

Where chats go, whether adults-only is enforced, and what happens when you ask to be deleted. Read the policy rather than the marketing: SoulFun's own privacy policy sets the floor at 13 and states no 18+ rule anywhere, and Joyland AI's terms set the same floor of 13 while its consent dialog names 211 advertising partners.

Billing terms

Read what a lifetime deal actually promises. Lovescape's own terms define lifetime as the duration of the service's commercial availability rather than yours, and say that if the service is discontinued no refunds are provided.

Platform Price anchor Known for Where it falls short
Candy.ai ~$13/mo annual Visual companion building, large roster, NSFW-forward Explicit-first tone; discretion and taste are not the product
Replika ~$20/mo Pro The original companion app, wellness angle, long history Shallow customization, muted romance, dated feel
Nomi.ai $15.99/mo, $99.99/yr The deepest long-term memory in the category, several companions, group chat, an 18+ floor and a dated privacy policy No price on its own website; all payments nonrefundable by policy; a credit currency on top of the subscription
Joyland AI No public price Huge free character catalog, novels, group chat, mobile apps Age floor of 13 in its own terms; heavy advertising and analytics stack
Character.AI Free + ~$10/mo Huge character variety, strong writing, big community Not adults-focused, heavy filters, no companion ownership
GirlfriendGPT $5, $10 or $35/mo Cheapest paid entry in this table, big community catalog, image generation, a named operator and a public bug bounty No tier contents published anywhere; explicit-first framing; markets no filters while its own FAQ warns against bypassing them
Infatuated AI $9.99/mo, or $6.99/mo on 12 months Publishes a full per-action price list; image, one-click video, talking video and voice all included and cheap on the annual term Token-metered, and its plans page and terms disagree on whether a message costs one token or two; no refunds at any tier
Yodayo / Moescape AI $9.99 to $39.99/mo (US App Store) The strongest art side in this table by a distance, publishes a context window for every chat model, and pays character authors a 20% commission Its content policy bans pornographic material in chat as well as art, and it publishes no price on its own website at all
Nastia AI Not published anywhere public Group chats with several companions at once, voice messages, image and video generation, and native iOS and Android apps, all in one account Prices are shown only inside the app after signup, its terms are governed by French law, and two of its pages say purchases are non-refundable while a third offers a fourteen-day review
Secrets AI Not published anywhere public Image and video generation, lifelike voice calls, group chats and personas, four billing terms, and a library it advertises as more than a million companions Its entire front-end contains no price at all, the only dollar figure it publishes is a $70 affiliate payout, chat extras are metered in credits called Moments, and its legal pages do not render at all
Generic NSFW bots Free / tokens No filters, no rules No age assurance, unclear data handling, quality roulette
Aroused From $6.50/mo billed yearly Deep one-at-a-time design, memory-first, tasteful adults-only Smaller catalog than the browse-first apps; one companion at a time by design

Pick a competitor if…

  • You want a shipped, mature product today: Replika and Character.AI have years of polish.
  • You want explicit content: that is Candy.ai's lane, deliberately not ours.
  • You want free above all: Character.AI's free tier is generous, with filters to match.
  • You want the deepest long-term memory across several companions at once: that is Nomi, and we say so on the Nomi AI review and alternative page, which also has its real prices.
  • You want the cheapest paid entry into a large explicit catalog: that is GirlfriendGPT at $5 a month, and what its tiers do and do not tell you is on the GirlfriendGPT alternative page.
  • You mainly want generated images and video rather than long conversation: Infatuated AI bundles both from $6.99 a month on an annual term, though it meters chat in tokens and contradicts itself on the rate, which we take apart on the Infatuated AI alternative page.
  • You want image and video generation, voice calls and a very large character library, and you do not mind a credit meter on top of the subscription: that is Secrets AI, which is broader than we are, though it publishes no price on any public surface and its refund rules live in its interface rather than a readable policy, both of which we document on the Secrets AI alternative page.
  • You want group chats with several companions at once, voice notes and video in a single phone app: that is Nastia AI, which does more than we do on breadth, though you cannot see what it charges until you are inside it and its terms point at the courts of France, both of which we document on the Nastia AI alternative page.
  • You want anime art and video generation with character chat beside it: that is Yodayo, now sharing one platform and one rulebook with Moescape AI, and the content rule that decides whether any of its plans suits you is on the Yodayo alternative page.
  • You want deep memory and generated selfies on your phone: see the Kindroid alternative comparison.
  • You want tens of thousands of community bots on mobile: Chai, weighed up on the Chai AI alternative page.
  • You want scene roleplay rather than a companion: the best roleplay AI comparison ranks them on memory and filters.
  • You would rather browse characters other people wrote than design one: the AI character chat apps comparison covers the big public libraries.
  • You want the romance framing for any gender: the romantic AI chatbot page walks through it.
  • You want collectible anime characters and voice on a phone: Linky, and what it costs once coins are involved, on the Linky AI alternative page.
  • You want explicit content rather than adult themed: which platforms permit it and what each one still refuses, on the NSFW AI chat comparison.
  • You want the widest feature set, images, voice and calling from one subscription, and will trade privacy assurances for it: Muah AI, whose 2024 breach and 2022 dated terms we set out on the Muah AI alternative page.

Pick Aroused if…

  • You want to design one companion deeply instead of browsing a thousand shallow ones.
  • You want adult warmth with taste: romantic, flirtatious, never pornographic.
  • You want an AI companion with long term memory included on every plan, not sold as a higher tier.
  • You care about privacy, age assurance and honest pricing more than about being first.
  • You want steady company for the quiet hours: what the research says about an AI companion for loneliness.
  • You want it on a keyboard rather than a phone: which apps run in a desktop browser, on the AI companion for PC page.
  • You are still working out whether you want a companion at all: what an AI companion is, and how it differs from an assistant or a character chat.
  • You want to try before deciding: try the demo, then start free.
