ChatFAI review: is ChatFAI safe, and is a paid plan worth it?

ChatFAI is a legitimate service run by Chatfai LLC, a Delaware-law company with published terms and a working help center, and its cheapest paid plan is good value at $9 a month for 1,500 messages. Before paying, know three things: refunds are generally refused, character memory on that $9 plan is "limited", and ChatFAI's help center and privacy policy describe your data in two different ways. Premium, at $29, is the plan most people actually need.

How much does ChatFAI cost?

ChatFAI has a free tier and three paid plans. Its pricing page opens on the yearly view, which is why so many reviews print only per-month figures like $8.25 and $24.17. We switched it to Monthly to get the real monthly prices.

On top of the plans, ChatFAI sells message credits that "never expire" and need no subscription; the calculator's default of 5,000 messages came to $35. Its developer API draws on the same credits. Two pricing details deserve a note. The help center says the yearly plan saves 20%, but on the list prices it saves 8.3% on Basic and 16.7% on Premium and Deluxe (our arithmetic). And the "Halloween Sale" code HALLOW40 shown on 27 September takes 40% off the first charge only: ChatFAI's terms say promo codes "are for first charge and revert to normal pricing", yearly plans included.

Some review sites list Basic at $4.25 a month. That price is not on ChatFAI's page in either view, so budget for $9 or $99.

Is ChatFAI free?

Partly. ChatFAI's help center says the free tier includes 500 messages per month, and that a regenerated reply counts as a message just like a new one. There is no free trial of Basic, Premium or Deluxe. For casual chat with a few characters, the free tier is generous. For nightly conversations it runs out in days.

Is ChatFAI safe?

It is safe from the "will I get scammed" angle: a registered company, a real support address ([email protected]), written terms, and plans that renew under the "exact same conditions" with notice before any price change. The privacy picture is less tidy, and ChatFAI's own documents are the reason.

Its help center article "What is ChatFAI?" says it "encrypts all chats end-to-end and does not store logs, transcripts, or usage analytics." Its privacy policy, from the same company, says it collects "Usage Data" including your IP address, browser, the pages you visit and the time you spend on them, and that it uses Google Ads remarketing "to advertise on third party websites to you after you visited our Service." In a normal browser, its homepage loaded Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics and DoubleClick. We are not saying which statement is right. We are saying you should read both before you type anything you would not want tied to your IP address.

Payment is by credit or debit card only; ChatFAI states "We do not accept Paypal or bank transfer payments." Deleting your account is irreversible and, per the help center, permanently deletes all your data.

Does ChatFAI allow NSFW?

Yes. Every paid plan lists "NSFW/Adult chat", and the help center says NSFW is allowed, except for promoting illegal activity or NSFW content with characters under 18. The terms make account holders "guarantee that you are above the age of 18". Review sites report that the adult toggle relies on that self-declaration rather than an ID check. We could not confirm the flow without creating an account, so treat it as their report, not ours.

One practical warning: chatfai.org is not ChatFAI. It uses the name, claims "700K+ users online", and every Premium, Create and Chat button sends you through two redirect domains to a sign-up page for a different AI girlfriend product. The real service is chatfai.com.

How good is ChatFAI's memory?

This is where the plan choice matters most. ChatFAI explains that a character's long-term memory is whatever you write in its bio, while short-term memory comes from the conversation and fades: at a dinner party in your story, the character "will forget that it is at a dinner party after a certain amount of messages." Its advice is to remind the character "every few lines", or to buy a higher plan. Basic is labeled "Limited Memory"; Premium and Deluxe say "Unlimited Memory".

Every paid plan also includes a knowledge store, where you give a character reference material to draw on. That suits fan characters and game worlds. If what you really want is a model that answers the way you would, trained on your own notes and messages rather than a fictional bio, that is a different job, and a tool built to create a mind clone from what you have written is the better fit.

Can I get a refund from ChatFAI?

Rarely. The help center says "We generally do not offer refunds", and the terms say certain subscription refund requests "may be considered" case by case at ChatFAI's "sole discretion". The pricing page adds that in the first month you can cancel or downgrade at any time. The safe approach is to start monthly, not yearly, and cancel from Settings before the renewal date if it is not for you.

ChatFAI vs Aroused: which should you pay for?

If you like hopping between fictional characters, group scenes and game worlds, ChatFAI is the better tool, and it has extras we do not: voice messages, a Discord bot and a developer API. Its $9 Basic plan also gives more messages than our $12.99 Spark plan, which has 1,000.

For light use, the free tier or $9 Basic is honest value. For anyone who wants a character to remember the story, the real price is $29 a month for Premium, and at that point it is worth comparing with services where memory is not an upsell.
