Flipped Chat review, is Flipped Chat safe, and is Pro worth paying for?
2 October 2026 · 8 min read · By the Aroused team
Flipped Chat is a legitimate, long-running AI character app with over a million Android installs and a generous free tier. Pro is worth paying for if you live in voice calls, generated photos and a big community catalog. It is a harder sell if you want one companion and a price you can check in advance, because Flipped publishes no price at all and bills its memberships by the week.
We build a competing product, so weigh this accordingly. Every claim below comes from Flipped's terms of service (last updated 15 August 2023), privacy policy (13 July 2026), FAQ, complaints policy, the text its own app shows users, and its Google Play listing, all read on 2 October 2026. We did not buy a plan or create an account, so where a fact sits behind a login we say so.

How much does Flipped Chat cost?
Flipped does not say on any page you can read. The pricing page is a shell that fills itself in after loading, and the plan list it loads comes back from Flipped's server encrypted. What the app's own interface text does reveal is the structure:
| What you buy | How it bills | What it unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Nothing | Chat, character creation, daily free selfies and call minutes |
| Pro | 1 week, 1 month or 1 year | The first paid level |
| Platinum | 1 week, 1 month or 1 year, as an upgrade from Pro | The top level |
| Gems | One-off packs | Calls and voice notes past the free minutes, long replies, photos, videos, cosmetics |
The paid benefits the app names are unlimited text messages, long-term and permanent memory, unlimited photos and videos a day, and unlimited characters. Two details matter at checkout. First, prices display as an amount per week, so a renewing weekly plan bills 52 times a year. Second, there is a real choice between auto-renewal and a one-time payment: the app says turning on auto-renewal saves 20% "every time", while the pay-once option reads "charged once. No auto-renewal." Few apps in this category offer that second door, and it is the safer one if you only want to try Pro for a week.
Review sites quote a weekly Pro price. We could not find it on any page Flipped publishes, so we are not repeating it. One site using the Flipped name, flipped-ai.eu, shows a $12.99 Premium and $29.99 Deluxe table, but it never links to flipped.chat and its buttons send you to a tracking link on another companion brand's domain. Those are not Flipped's prices. Our Flipped Chat alternative page lists every lookalike we checked.
What do gems cost on Flipped Chat?
Gems are where free use ends. Flipped's app text is specific about three meters. Voice calls: "You have a free {num}-minute talk time every day. After that, the service will incur charges (50 gems per minute)." Voice messages: after your free minutes, "1 gem per second". Long-text and story modes: "Each message costs {price} gems, but short messages won't be charged." The numbers in braces are filled in by the server per account, so we cannot quote the free minutes or the per-reply price.
Gems also buy extra selfies once the daily free tries are gone, AI photos when you create a character, videos, and frames and chat bubbles. Google Play lists Flipped's in-app items at $0.99 to $99.99, and first-time gem buyers on the web are told they save 15% "with a lower third-party service fee". A fair point in Flipped's favor: images that fail its safety review are refunded to your gem wallet automatically.
Is Flipped Chat safe?
As a business, broadly yes. The terms restrict the service to adults 18 and over, the privacy policy says Flipped has not "disclosed, sold, or shared any personal information to third parties for a business or commercial purpose in the preceding twelve (12) months", data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and on iPhone it says it honors "Ask App Not to Track" by not loading advertising pixels. Complaints are acknowledged within 24 hours and resolved within 7 business days, per its complaints policy.
Four things deserve a careful read before you pay:
- Who you are paying. The privacy policy names only "Flipped Team". The terms of service name SINGAPORE DESERT OASIS TECHNICAL PTE. LTD, of Singapore, as owner and operator, while choosing US law and giving US courts exclusive jurisdiction.
- What you post publicly. Public characters and posts carry a license that is "unrestricted, unlimited, irrevocable, perpetual" and covers "your image, name, and voice". Keep personal details out of anything you publish.
- Lookalikes. "Flipped ai" is searched about 40,500 times a month in the US, and the name is shared by a careers platform, a redirect domain, the lookalike site above, and an iPhone app from an unrelated seller. Flipped's own iOS listing no longer appears in the US App Store. Use flipped.chat or the Google Play app from developer "Flipped Chat".
- What you read about it. 46 of the 47 blog addresses in flipped.chat's own sitemap are first-person posts such as "How Flipped Changed My Life" and "Why I Made the Switch to Flipped", published by Flipped itself. Weigh glowing reviews with that in mind.
Is Flipped Chat NSFW?
Flipped's FAQ says it "strictly prohibits public display of NSFW content", and its 2023 terms forbid submitting anything "sexually explicit". Review sites report that private explicit chat opens up on paid plans. We did not test that, and the two Flipped documents do not settle it. If explicit content is the reason you would pay, confirm it on the free tier before buying a week of Pro.
Can you get a refund from Flipped Chat?
Almost never. The terms say "all fees are non-refundable once login details have been used" and "Refunds cannot be claimed for any subscription period". The one exception is an order placed at a wrong or mistyped price, which Flipped may cancel and refund. Purchases made through Google Play also fall under Play's own refund rules.
How do you cancel Flipped Chat?
The 2023 terms say you can cancel "only through the App marketplace where you originally acquired the subscription", but the site now bills cards and PayPal directly and has its own Manage Subscription and Cancel Subscription screens. On the web, cancel from your profile; the app confirms that access lasts "until the end of your billing period". On Android, cancel in Google Play. Deleting your account also cancels auto-renewal. Keep the confirmation email either way.
Is Flipped Chat Pro worth it?
It depends on what you do there. If you spend your evenings in voice calls, generating photos and hopping between community characters, Pro or Platinum removes the meters that bite hardest, and a single pay-once week is a cheap way to find out. Flipped also pays its character creators, ranking them by new chats each week and passing on 50% of the rewards users send. Creators chasing that ranking tend to promote their characters off the platform, and if that is you, a tool that can turn one character intro into posts for every channel saves rewriting it for each one.
If instead you keep coming back to one character, the value is weaker. You pay weekly for a catalog you do not use, memory sits behind the paid levels, and you cannot see the price until checkout. That is the reader we built Aroused for: one companion you design, adults only, who remembers you between conversations, with every plan on our pricing page before you sign up, from $12.99 a month or $6.50 a month billed yearly, and no gem currency.
What are the best Flipped Chat alternatives?
For another large character catalog with a free tier, PolyBuzz and Talkie are the closest; our PolyBuzz comparison and Talkie AI comparison read their terms the same way. If you came from Character.AI and want fewer filters, the Character AI alternative guide covers that move. For a side-by-side of every app we have checked, see the best AI companion roundup.
The verdict
Flipped Chat is a real, established app with a free tier worth trying and a rare pay-once option. Before paying, know that it publishes no price, bills by the week, meters calls at 50 gems a minute past the free allowance, and refunds nothing once you have logged in. Buy one week without auto-renewal first, and buy it at flipped.chat or on Google Play, not through a lookalike.
