Charstar (charstar.ai) was a free-to-start AI character chat site where users made and shared their own characters, NSFW ones included. Since 29 September 2025 the domain has returned a hosting error, "DEPLOYMENT_NOT_FOUND", on every page, and it still did on 6 October 2026.

There is no shutdown notice, no export tool and no message from the team on the domain itself. It is a bare hosting error. So the question for most people searching "Charstar AI" is no longer how it compares. It is where to go now, and whether anything is still being billed.

Yes, and it has been for over a year

This is what a browser gets from charstar.ai today. It is not a maintenance page or a "we'll be back" banner. It is the hosting platform saying the site that used to live at this address no longer exists there. The same error comes back for the homepage, the pricing address, the terms and the privacy policy.

That matters for one practical reason: the privacy policy and terms you agreed to are no longer readable, so there is no published route to ask for your data or your chats. One detail stands out in the archive. The main code file the homepage loaded in September 2025 is the same one first captured in February 2024, which suggests the website itself went about 19 months without a new release before it went dark. Bots on the front page still showed chat counts of 1.5 million and 1.4 million, so plenty of people were using it right up to the end.

Charstar never had a pricing page the Internet Archive could save: the address redirected in every capture from 2023 to 2024. Third-party reviews report a free tier of 3 characters and 100 messages a day, and Charstar Plus at $14.99 a month or $59.99 a year, with "star" packs on top. Those are reported figures, not ones we could confirm from Charstar itself.

A yearly plan bought in the summer of 2025 would have renewed after the site stopped loading. A service that is down does not always stop billing, so spend two minutes on the checks to the right.
