The short answer
Moemate shut down permanently and is not coming back. Its team announced the closure in February 2025, blaming GPU and API running costs it could not cover, and every chat log, custom character and voice clone was deleted. As of 24 August 2026 the domain moemate.io has no DNS record at all, so there is nothing left to log into. Which replacement is right depends on which part of Moemate you miss. What happened to Moemate?
This SERP is full of pages that paraphrase each other. So rather than repeat them, we ran the checks ourselves: DNS lookups on every Moemate domain, the Wayback Machine's final HTML capture, and the market record for the token the company launched weeks before it closed. One detail deserves calling out, because it explains a lot of the anger in old threads. The exporter was behind a login. If you had already lost access to your account, or simply did not hear about the wind-down in the few weeks it stayed up, there was no way to pull your own conversations out. And since the domain no longer resolves, that door is now shut for good.
Asked constantly, so answered plainly
Is Moemate coming back?
Almost certainly not. When the shutdown was announced the team hinted at a successor built on cheaper infrastructure, possibly three to six months later. That window closed well over a year ago and nothing has shipped publicly. More tellingly, the company let the domain lapse: a team planning a relaunch keeps its main domain, and moemate.io now has no DNS record at all, while moemate.ai has ended up on a parking page. Those are the housekeeping habits of a company that is finished, not one regrouping.
Is Moemate back?
No. There is no live Moemate app, web client or download. Any site currently offering a "Moemate APK" or a Moemate download is not run by the original team, and installing an unsigned build of a dead app is a bad trade at any price.
Can I get my characters back?
No. Chats, custom characters and voice clones were deleted, and the login-walled exporter that briefly existed is gone with the domain. If you kept screenshots or a saved character description, that text is still useful: you can paste a personality brief into a new companion and get most of the feel back in minutes.
What about the token?
MATES still trades on Solana, roughly 99.9% below its January 2025 high, with a market capitalization around $58,000. It buys you nothing, because the product it was meant to unlock does not exist.

Moemate bundled four fairly different things, and almost nobody used all four. Work out which one you actually opened it for, because the right replacement is completely different for each. This is also the honest answer to why no single app is "the" Moemate replacement.

The lesson worth keeping
How to pick one that will still be here
Moemate did not fail because the AI was bad. It failed because renting someone else's GPUs cost more than it charged, and no amount of product polish fixes that. Four things are worth checking before you hand another companion app your evenings.
1. Does the pricing look like it covers the compute?
Unlimited everything for a couple of dollars a month is a warning, not a bargain. Someone is paying for the inference, and if it is not you it is a runway that ends. A plain monthly subscription that looks slightly boring is the healthier sign.
2. Is the business model the product?
Moemate launched a token weeks before it closed. When a companion app's roadmap starts talking about ecosystems and coins rather than conversation quality, the attention has moved somewhere that is not your chat window.
3. Can you get your data out today, not during a wind-down?
An export that only appears when the company is closing is worthless, as Moemate's login-walled exporter proved. Look for export you can use on a normal Tuesday. Failing that, keep your own copy of the character brief that matters to you.
4. Is memory a feature or a meter?
Several rivals sell recall by the hour or the week, so your companion forgets you on schedule unless you upgrade. We think that is the wrong thing to meter, so persistent memory is on every paid plan here. Check where any app you are considering stands.

Is there a safe Moemate download or APK?

Can I recover my Moemate characters and chats?
