Candy AI is a competent, feature-heavy adult companion app, and it is worth paying for if you want image and video generation rather than only conversation. The catch is not quality, it is billing. The same Premium plan costs $47.88 a year on the annual button and $291.20 a year on the weekly button, the benefits are identical on every term, and refunds are only available within 24 hours of payment and only if you have used 20 tokens or fewer. We build a competing product, so read this knowing that. Every figure and quote below was pulled first-hand from Candy AI's own checkout and help center on 9 September 2026.

The pricing ladder nobody publishes

Most Candy AI reviews quote $13.99 a month and stop there. That figure is correct, and it is also the second most expensive way to buy the product. Candy runs five billing terms, and the two shortest ones only appear after you click through to the "Choose payment method" step, which is why they almost never make it into a roundup.

Here is the whole ladder as the checkout showed it, with the annual cost worked out. Every one of these buys the same thing.

  • 12 months, $3.99 a month. Billed as $47.88 once. Labeled "70% OFF" and "BEST VALUE".
  • 3 months, $8.99 a month. Billed as $26.97 quarterly, so $107.88 a year. Labeled "35% OFF".
  • 1 month, $13.99. $167.88 a year.
  • Every 2 weeks, $9.79. Twenty-six payments, so $254.54 a year.
  • Weekly, $5.60. Fifty-two payments, so $291.20 a year.

That is a 6.1x spread between the cheapest and the most expensive route to an identical product. The weekly plan looks like the small, low-commitment option and is in fact the single most expensive way to hold a Candy subscription, costing more in ten weeks than the annual plan costs in a year. Each term carries the same line: "Renews automatically for the same price and term."

None of this is hidden exactly, but it is arranged so the cheap number and the expensive number sit two clicks apart. If you decide Candy is for you, the only sensible choice is the annual plan, and the only reason to take a shorter term is if you are genuinely unsure, in which case read the refund section below before you assume you can back out. The full breakdown of token packs and what an active month really costs is in our Candy AI pricing guide.

What you actually get for the money

The benefits list is identical on every billing term, which is unusual and, to be fair to Candy, straightforward. Verbatim from the checkout: "Create your own AI Girlfriend(s)", "Generate 18+ Videos", "Generate 18+ Images", "Full Live Action Experience", "Unlimited text messages", and "100 tokens per month".

Unlimited text is real. Candy's own support documentation confirms that "Regular chatting doesn't cost tokens", and that chat keeps working even when your token balance is empty. If all you want is conversation, the $3.99-a-month annual plan is honestly a reasonable price and the token economy will never touch you.

The 100 tokens are the part that decides your real bill

Everything beyond text runs on tokens: image generation, creating a custom AI, listening to a voice message, voice calls, unlocking private content packs, and video generation. Your subscription includes "100 free tokens every month, added on your renewal date", and once they are gone you are prompted to buy more.

One published rate makes the scale concrete. Candy Roulette, the random video-chat feature, "costs 5 tokens per minute". At 100 tokens a month, that is twenty minutes of video chat, once, and then you are buying tokens. Generate a few images in a conversation and the same allowance disappears faster. Candy has even shipped an image generation toggle whose stated purpose is to prevent "unwanted token usage", which is a fair acknowledgement from the vendor that images can quietly spend your balance when you did not mean them to.

So the honest way to read Candy's price is that the subscription is a floor, not a ceiling. Text-only users pay the sticker price. Anyone using it for images or video should expect the token packs to become the larger line on the bill.

Refunds: 24 hours and 20 tokens

This is the finding most likely to matter to you, and it is the one no listicle mentions. Candy's help center states the rule plainly: "In general, you can request a refund within 24 hours of payment, but only if you have used 20 tokens or fewer. Refunds are not available for technical issues on the user's side. Only card payments are eligible for refunds."

Read that next to the annual plan. The "BEST VALUE" option takes $47.88 up front, and your window to change your mind is one day, conditional on having spent no more than a fifth of one month's tokens. Twenty tokens is four minutes of Candy Roulette. It is entirely possible to try the product properly and lose eligibility for a refund on the same evening you bought it.

Cancelling is not the same as refunding, and Candy says so directly: "Cancelling your subscription does not automatically issue a refund. When you cancel your subscription, future renewals are stopped, but your Premium access will remain active until the end of your current billing period." Refund requests go to support rather than through a button.

Combine that with automatic renewal at the same term and you get the classic way people end up paying for an adult subscription for a year without noticing: the charge lands under a neutral merchant name, because Candy confirms that transactions "appear under a neutral merchant name. There is no direct reference to Candy AI or its services on your bank statement." That is a genuine privacy feature and a good one. It also means the line item is unrecognizable later, so it is worth keeping an eye on what actually leaves your account each month and noting the descriptor at the moment you subscribe.

Is Candy AI safe and legitimate?

It is a real, established product rather than a fly-by-night site. It is operated by EverAI, which you can see from its support infrastructure, and it advertises itself as "Trusted by 50M Users" with "1000+ Ratings", though both of those are the company's own claims about itself rather than independent measurements. It accepts cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, bank transfer and cryptocurrency including Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC and Litecoin. Note that only card payments are refund-eligible, so paying in crypto removes even the 24-hour window.

Candy states that conversations are encrypted, that it follows GDPR standards and that your data is "never shared or sold". We have gone through the safety side in more depth in our separate look at whether Candy AI is safe.

Who should buy it, and who should not

Buy Candy AI if generated images and video are the point of the product for you, if you want a large library of ready-made characters rather than building one, and if you are willing to commit to the annual plan to get a sane price. On that plan, at $47.88 for a year, it is good value for what it does.

Look elsewhere if you mainly want conversation and a companion who remembers you, if you dislike a credit meter sitting between you and a feature, or if a 24-hour refund window on an annual charge is not a risk you want to take. That last group is who we built for: one companion, a flat monthly message allowance, nothing to top up, and a price on the page before you hand over an email address. You can see how the two line up on our Candy AI alternative page, and if you are also weighing up a product that publishes no price at all, we took that one apart on our Secrets AI alternative page.

The verdict

Candy AI earns its reputation on capability. Images, video, voice and a huge character library are all there and they work. It loses points on how it sells itself: five billing terms with a 6.1x price spread, a "small" weekly option that is the most expensive one, and a refund policy that gives you a single day and twenty tokens to decide. Those are not reasons to avoid it. They are reasons to buy it on the annual plan, deliberately, and to test what you can inside the first twenty-four hours.
