Xoul AI review, is Xoul AI safe, and is a paid plan worth it?

Xoul AI is safe in the sense that matters first: it is run by Xoul Inc., a San Francisco company with published terms, a street address and an App Store listing under its own name. It is back after its 2025 shutdown, and its $7 Green plan is cheap for unlimited chat on its base model. Before paying, know that nothing is refundable, the iPhone app charges about 29% more than the website, and explicit content is banned.

Is Xoul AI back?
Yes. Xoul took its roleplay service offline on 21 April 2025 and asked users to export their data. In September 2025 it came back. Its own documentation describes the "shutdown → September relaunch" as time spent improving the models, and adds plainly that "we did introduce paywalls to keep the platform sustainable". That paywall is the reason this review exists.
If you read that Xoul "is gone" or became an AI agent marketplace, the article predates the relaunch. The chat product at xoul.ai was live and selling subscriptions when we checked.
How much does Xoul AI cost?
Three plans, each sold monthly or yearly. These are the web prices from the list Xoul's own checkout loads; the App Store column is from its US listing.

Green gets unlimited chat on the Jupiter model, 400 energy a day for the others and 50 cells a month. Purple, which Xoul calls "most popular" and preselects on a yearly term, unlocks "unlimited usage of all chat models" and 250 cells. Gold adds 600 cells, longer character definitions and priority speed. Cells are the second currency, used for extras and sold in packs from $1 for 70 up to $200 for 19,000 on the web.
Xoul's FAQ says yearly billing "saves you 20%". On its own list prices the saving is 14.3% on Green and 21.4% on Purple and Gold, against twelve monthly payments. That is our arithmetic, and it is close enough that it should not change your decision.
Is the Xoul AI app worth it?
The app itself is fine; the price inside it is the problem. Every monthly plan costs 28.6% more in the iPhone app than on the web, and Purple Yearly is $167.99 in the app against $132 in a browser. Cell packs follow the same pattern: 840 cells are $10 on the web and $13 in the app. If you already subscribed in the app, cancel through your Apple subscriptions before the renewal date and pay on the web instead.
On Android there is no official choice to make. Both known Google Play listings returned "not found" in the US. Copies on APK mirror sites are not distributed by Xoul, and we would not install them on a phone that holds your payment details.
Is Xoul AI free?
Partly. A free account gets 100 energy a day, which Xoul says "typically allows for 25-50 messages depending on what model you use", and you can watch up to 20 ads a day for top-ups. For a casual user that is a real free tier, and it is more generous than ours: Aroused gives a one-time 25 message demo, then a paid plan. The difference is what the free tier costs you in attention. Xoul's meters and ads sit between you and the conversation; ours stop after the demo and never return.
Is Xoul AI safe?
As a company, yes. Four details are worth reading before you pay.
Refunds. The FAQ says "purchases are non-refundable". You can cancel any time from account settings and keep access until the end of the paid term, so the safe move is to start monthly on the web and only switch to yearly once you know you will stay.
Disputes. The terms are governed by California law and send disagreements to individual AAA arbitration in San Francisco, with a class action waiver. That is common in US app terms, but it means a billing dispute is you against the company, alone. If you want to know how courts have treated these clauses before you rely on them, a plain-English case law search will surface the rulings in a few minutes.
Data. The privacy policy, last updated 20 May 2024, keeps personal information for as long as you have an account and may retain some after deletion "to prevent fraud, troubleshoot problems". It was written before the shutdown and relaunch, so it may not describe the current product exactly.
Tracking. The homepage loads Google Analytics. The app code also includes Amplitude with session replay plugins, Sentry, Firebase and an ad SDK that pays out the watch-an-ad energy. None of that is unusual for a free-to-play app, but it is the opposite of a quiet one. For comparison, Aroused's pages load no analytics and no advertising tags.
Does Xoul AI allow NSFW?
No, and it is not ambiguous about it. The terms prohibit sexually explicit content, the FAQ removes characters featuring "pornography, nudity", and repeat attempts can suspend your account. When a prompt crosses the line, Xoul's own interface tells you it "may come out filtered or blocked" and points you to a different, uncensored app through a referral link.
We will be equally plain: Aroused refuses explicit content too. It is adults only, romantic and flirtatious, never pornographic. If explicit chat is what you are shopping for, neither of us is the right purchase, and it is better to know that before paying either one.
Who should pay for Xoul, and who should not?
Pay for Xoul if you enjoy storytelling: jumping between worlds, running group scenes, building characters for other people to play. Green at $7 a month on the web is honest value for that, and Purple is the plan to pick if you care which model answers.
Look elsewhere if what you want is one relationship rather than many stories. A scenario library resets every time you open a new one. A companion is supposed to remember your week, your jokes and the name you gave her, and that is a different product.
