Is Talkie AI safe? A privacy, data and app store review for adults (2026)

22 August 2026 · 8 min read · By the Aroused team

Talkie AI is a real, widely used product and there is no publicly reported breach of it as of August 2026. For an adult, the day to day privacy risk is ordinary. Two things make it unusual enough to check before you invest time in a character. First, its own privacy policy sets the minimum age at 14, which is lower than almost every comparable app and lower than the store ratings suggest. Second, the app has been pulled from major app stores twice and came back under a different name, so the account you build is on less stable ground than the download count implies.

Everything below marked as quoted comes from Talkie's own privacy policy, fetched in August 2026. Where we rely on press reporting instead, we say so.

Who actually operates Talkie AI?

This is harder to answer than it should be. Press coverage of Talkie, including the reporting on its 2024 App Store removal, consistently describes it as the product of MiniMax, a Shanghai based AI company. Talkie's own privacy policy names a different entity: SUBSUP PTE. LTD., with a data protection officer reachable at 8 Kaki Bukit Avenue 4, Premier @ Kaki Bukit, Singapore 415875.

Those two facts are not necessarily in conflict. Corporate groups routinely place a Singapore entity between a Chinese parent and international users, and the policy also states that data "may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the U.S.A." But the practical point stands: if you want to know which legal system governs your data, the answer is not on one page, and you should decide how much that matters to you before you sign up. We could not reconcile the two from public documents, so we report both rather than picking one.

What data does Talkie AI collect?

The collected categories are broad but not unusual for the category: account details, profile information, the messages and content you create, your stated interests, payment data, device and network information, and usage analytics. The policy explicitly includes "voice and text messages" among the content it processes.

What the policy saysWhat it means for you
Collects voice and text messages, profile data, interests, payment and device dataStandard for the category. Your conversations are stored, not ephemeral.
Shares data with "advertising companies for interest-based advertising"Your app usage feeds ad targeting, as it would in most free apps.
"We will never share your Talkie conversations or any photos or other content you provide within the Apps with our advertising partners"A genuinely strong commitment, and stronger than several rivals make.
"We will never use or disclose the content of your Talkie conversations for marketing or advertising purposes"Chat content is walled off from the ad business, in writing.
Retained "only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes we collected it for"No fixed deletion window. In practice, indefinite until you delete the account.
Data "may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the U.S.A."US processing, whatever the parent company's location.

Give credit where it is due. Those two "never" clauses are among the clearer commitments in this category, and they address the thing people actually worry about, which is an intimate conversation turning into an ad segment. Several competitors reserve much broader rights over user content. Our review of PolyBuzz's terms covers one that takes a perpetual and irrevocable license over anything you upload.

The gap worth naming is the ad tracking itself. Independent analyses published in 2026 report that the app bundles a substantial number of third party advertising SDKs, and Talkie's policy discloses ad network sharing in general terms without naming the individual partners. That is legal and common, but it does mean the identifiers your phone hands out are doing more work than the policy's plain language suggests.

Does Talkie AI use your conversations to train its AI?

Yes, in the narrow sense. The policy states that Talkie processes conversation data "to allow your AI chatbot to learn from your interactions to improve your conversations." That describes personalization of your own companion rather than a blanket right to train foundation models on your chats, and it sits alongside the commitment not to use conversation content for advertising. It does not, however, promise that your data will never contribute to model improvement more broadly. If that distinction matters to you, treat it as unresolved.

What is the minimum age for Talkie AI?

Talkie's privacy policy states that "the Services are not intended for individuals under the age of 14 or under the applicable minimum age required by local law." That is the number in the primary document, and it is notably low. Widely circulated parent guides state a minimum of 16 with parental permission for under 18s, and the store listings have carried mature ratings. Whichever figure applies, age is self reported, with no verification step of any kind.

For an adult reader the takeaway is not about your own eligibility. It is that a platform whose written floor is 14 is designing its moderation, its character library and its content filters for a mixed audience. That shapes the product you get. If you are an adult who wants an adult experience, an app built around a 14 year old floor is structurally the wrong tool, and no setting inside it will change that.

Why does Talkie AI keep disappearing from the app store?

Because it has been pulled twice, by two different stores, and both times it came back. This is the practical risk that safety reviews usually miss, and it has nothing to do with your password.

WhenWhat happenedOutcome
17 December 2024Removed from the US iOS App Store. The stated reason was unspecified "technical reasons".Unavailable to new US iOS users for a period.
February 2025Returned to the US App Store under a new listing name, "Talkie Lab".Back, but findable only under the new name.
April to May 2026Removed from Google Play during a policy and compliance review.Returned after the review.
Compiled August 2026 from press reporting, including South China Morning Post coverage of the 2024 removal. This is attributed reporting, not a Talkie statement.

There is no formal ban and no evidence the service is shutting down. The pattern is recurring store compliance reviews. But if you are choosing where to spend six months building a character, a service that has twice been delisted and once renamed is a different bet from one that has not. It is the same class of risk we wrote about in what happens when an AI companion app shuts down: the thing you lose is never the subscription, it is the relationship history.

Is Talkie AI safe for adults?

For an adult, yes, with conditions. There is no reported breach, the payment flow is normal, and the conversation privacy commitments in the policy are better than several rivals offer. The honest caveats are these: your data may be processed in the US under an entity whose relationship to the widely reported Chinese parent is not spelled out anywhere public, the written age floor is 14, the ad tracking is heavier than the policy's plain language implies, and the app's availability has proven unstable.

Note also what is absent. We found no arbitration clause or class action waiver in the privacy policy, which is worth mentioning because those clauses are near universal in this category and are usually the sharpest thing in the fine print.

How to use Talkie AI more safely

  • Sign up with an email alias you do not use elsewhere, and never reuse a password.
  • Turn off ad personalization at the operating system level, since that is where most of the tracking identifiers actually come from.
  • Do not put your real name, employer, address or anything financial into a character conversation, however natural it feels.
  • Assume nothing is exportable. If a character's history matters to you, screenshot it as you go.
  • If the app vanishes from your store again, check for a renamed listing before assuming it is gone.

What is a good Talkie AI alternative?

It depends on what actually pushed you to look. If the issue is that content filters keep interrupting a conversation you are having as an adult, that is a product category problem rather than a settings problem, and a service built for chat without content filters is a more honest fit than fighting a general audience app. If the issue is that you want a companion you designed yourself, with memory that persists and a flat monthly price rather than a mixed audience character library, that is what we build, and our Talkie AI alternative page compares the options side by side. If you want the strongest long term memory in the category regardless of who makes it, Nomi.ai is the honest recommendation.

Whatever you pick, the habit that actually protects you is reading the retention and cancellation terms before you invest months in a character rather than after. Our guide to AI companion app privacy covers what these platforms typically keep, and the best AI companion roundup ranks the category on memory and data terms rather than on gallery size.
